I am – You are – We are Australian…

Ye that’s from a song. Since this morning I am also an Aussie – Australian, that is.
Hooray & G’day!

It mostly means being able to use a different queue when coming back into the country after MySQL travels. Australian customs are fine anyway, always friendly. It just saves the hassle of having to explain that I live here, showing the permanent residency visa, etc.
It also means I can be called up for jury duty (oh glory) and that next time Mr Howard comes up for election, I will have the opportunity (and duty, Aussies have to vote) to help vote him out. Ha!

I am also retaining my Dutch citizenship. Using a Dutch passport is still one of the safest ways to travel the planet. It’s quite amazing actually, since the Dutch have this long and mostly nasty colonial + slave-trading history, and up to the present day they stick their nose in everybody’s affairs – but somehow, they’re still liked.
Perhaps the Americans should do a study on how they do it…. 😉

  1. Welcome to the club! 🙂

  2. Congratulations mate!

You do realise that you now have to explain Neighbors to the rest of the world? 🙂

  3. First, I guess congratulations are in order…as I suspect that this action probably means a lot to you.

Second, dude…you should have just asked, I would have sold you my citizenship. (CHEAP!)

Anyone else wanna a cheap ticket back to the 1950’s?

  4. Congratulations, indeed!

As an Australian citizen living and working in the US and waiting to be able to apply to be a citizen of the US, I know just how much this means to you.

Also: hooray for dual citizenship—not as useful as one might think, but nice to have nevertheless.

  5. I think it’s the Clogs, and the fact that Nederaland is a country that almost went broke through rabid trading of tulips. After that it’s a bit hard to take them seriously.

On a more serious note, congratulations on the citizenship. Now all you need to do is learn the words to our national anthem – Men at Works “Land Down Under”

  6. Hrm…Clog Dundee?
