MySQL AB Community Department is hiring!

MySQL AB is looking for an energetic person in Western Europe to join the MySQL AB Community Department. In this important and responsible full-time position, you must be able to work: independently from home; juggle a multitude of diverse tasks; and – while working within a small team – also interact effectively with the rest of the company and of course the huge MySQL User Community.

In a nutshell: this is one of the coolest jobs in the company! It’s not a party gig though, there’s serious hard work involved. Here’s more details:

Primary Responsibilities

  • Initiate and maintain contacts in your region with: publishers and conference organisers; MySQL and other Community leaders; MySQL and other User Groups
  • Participate on MySQL and related mailing lists, forums, IRC, etc.
  • Write articles for the MySQL web site and other publications
  • Speak at conferences and other events
  • Maintain a professional blog, tracking activities and other topical issues
  • Assist the Program Chair of the MySQL Users Conference: initiating and maintaining regular contact with (prospective) speakers, reviewing submitted materials

Required Qualifications

  • Fluent English, both written and verbal (skills in other common languages are desirable)
  • Proven strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be published author (articles or books) and strong public speaker with experience through conferences or teaching training courses
  • Ability to work independently from home, with suitable work environment
  • Have no passport/visa restrictions for travel globally
  • 3+ years proven experience with MySQL and tool/application development in one or more commonly used programming/scripting languages, such as C, PHP, Java, Perl, Python
