This week’s winner of the iPod nano!

Last week Kaj announced the winner of the nano, so this week is my turn again! I delved into our bugs database, looking who has been making good bug reports on MySQL 5.0. And the winner is… (drumroll) … Martin Friebe from London, UK.

So what makes Martin’s bug reports particularly interesting? Well, first of all he’s made quite a few. That on its own means nada of course, but they are good and about 5.0, well analyzed (checked with other versions as well, and even on the 5.0 bk source tree), and some are optimizer related. Optimizer problems be tricky, and so it’s very important that they are caught and handled by our optimization team led by Igor Babaev.

Martin, thanks for your excellent help in making MySQL 5.0 rock!

  1. This is Martin. Well, thanks first. For picking me or my bug-reports, but even more for MySQL itself (great development, and great documentation too).
I have used MySQL over the past 6 years (since I am in IT), with various companies. I still remember, when we upgraded from version 3 to 4.0, and I am looking forward to the next upgrade now, and start using 5.0 in production soon.

(Here is an other interesting one: The spell checker for this Page, marks your own product “MySQL” as a misspelled word…)

  2. Hehe, well MySQL is not yet in the dictionary. I did hear that “to google” was just added as a verb, and rightly so IMHO. I remember that some years ago, Homer Simpson’s “D’Oh” made it in. Who knows.
