MySQL 5.1, community/enterprise?

So, MySQL 5.1.30 (no longer RC) is here. Very good.

Question, Sun/MySQL, since this is 5.1.30 (an even number, traditionally reserved for enterprise builds)… are there still going to be separate enterprise builds for 5.1 ? I think it would be really great if you were to trust your subscription offering with query analyser and the trusted support gang, and so on…

Go on, make us proud!

  1. Hi Arjen

“I think it would be really great if you were to trust your subscription offering with query analyser and the trusted support gang, and so on…”

Honestly? I bet you’d then be giving us a hard time for small bits of closed source software? (And not that we don’t deserve it, I’m just saying…)

The even/odd version numbering is gone. There will still be more Enterprise binaries (each month, plus a quarterly service pack, guaranteed) than Community binaries, but when they coincide it seems they have the same version number. (And when not, I guess Community version will just have gaps in it’s numbering??)

  2. Henrik, I’ve already given my opinion on that in a post last week: http://arjen-lentz.livejournal.com/140010.html
Have a peek, and you’ll notice it’s not actually negative. Sure, I’d prefer something open, but I think it’s actually a sensible business offering.

Re numbering… righty. Ok. Will there be public story on how that’s going to work in further detail? Anyway, thanks for this info. Much appreciated!

  3. Does this mean that 5.1 is only GA for Enterprise?

  4. Ah, the confusion starts already…
No I don’t think so, 5.1.30 is available from dev.mysql.com/downloads so that’s Community. From Henrik’s msg I conclude that there’s *also* an Enterprise build of it, but that’d just be the same then anyway for this version.
