First day at AUUG 2005

The AUUG 2005 conference was just opened by AUUG President David Purdue.

Yesterday I did my two tutorials, “Optimising MySQL” and “MySQL 5.0 in Depth” which were both well attended and appreciated.

I already met some MySQL users with deployments and in places I didn’t yet know about, such as one person from the University of the South Pacific (Fiji). Yes they use MySQL there too!
And the location sounds very exotic, doesn’t it? Of course, from Australia it’s only a 3 hour flight, about the same distance as New Zealand… and it appears there’s interest in MySQL training there… hmm, the chore of being a trainer in this region 😉

Right now Brad Templeton from the Electronic Frontier Foundation is giving the first keynote talk. Insightful matter.
