A bluetooth headset that actually does what I want

When I visited my friend Jonathan Oxer last week, he told me about his bluetooth headset which he’d found on DealsDirect. I excused myself briefly, opened by laptop, and ordered one online 😉

So, what it is is a stereo bluetooth headset, with built-in microphone. It can pair with multiple devices, not sure what the maximum is but right now it’s 3 for me: the included (!) bluetooth transmitter with a headphone jack for iPods, my mobile phone, and my laptop.

The headset knows that a phone is a phone (from Bluetooth profile), and thus a incoming call automatically takes priority. Yes that’s right, no awkward switching mess, it just works (as a Mac user, I appreciate that approach). All that for $99 plus a few dollars postage. Bloody brilliant.

For some cases I’d prefer to use a one-ear headset, but let’s not be too picky. In the car my phone talks with my GPS as a handsfree, so that’s taken care of anyway.

  1. Hey Arjen,
What brand are they – the product description is amazingly generic. I’m hoping to find them in the UK somewhere.

    Cheers,

    Adrian Sutton.

  2. Brilliant, you say?

Hmm, might have to snatch one next week. The worst thing about being paid monthly is you set aside money for shiny things (like Wii Fit), then someone comes along and makes you want another shiny thing.

    Does it have a propriet

  3. …ry battery charger?

(Sorry, my fingers tend to catch the enter key when typing on this keyboard. I’m going to have to start typing replies in VIM)

  4. Little 5V thing with tiny hollow plug,+ on inside.
Those are fairly common, and some cables have a USB plug on the other end. And then it’s very generic.
So yes, the included charger can probably be regarded as proprietary, but I think it’ll be easy to go generic. And the same works in both the headset and the bluetooth transmitter.

  5. Doesn’t say anywhere on the packaging or docs. I asked someone I know at DealsDirect, will let you know if&when I found out.
